Dynamic Vibration
Analysis of Engine and Propeller:
In an effort to smooth out vibration a member brought his
Cessna 210 to our hangar to see if we could help. After
about 20 minutes of prep-work we installed our DSS Microvib
II Aircraft analyzer. We test ran the aircraft to find that
his vibration levels were .731 IPS (inch per second). We
added our test weights and made a few more test runs. Then
after establishing a vibration solution, we added our
permanent weights. One last test run revealed that we had
reduced the vibration level to .009 IPS. After 2 hours and
4 test runs we had reduced the vibration levels by a
significant percent.
CPA offers Dynamic
Vibration Analysis for $175 for each prop using the latest,
sophisticated computer equipment and software. Dynamic
propeller/engine vibration analysis allows us to check and
fine tune the engine and prop vibration. This service will
help extend the life of your engine/prop and airframe while
reducing pilot fatigue. Excessive vibration and stress
caused by the difference in the center of mass to the center
of rotation of the propeller and engine can cause stress in
the whole airframe. The vibration from the engine propeller
combination may in turn cause excessive wear in bearings,
bushings, shafts, gears, cabling, hoses, cowlings, radios,
instruments and exhaust systems substantially reducing their
service life. These vibrations can set up highly undesirable
stresses in structures which may eventually lead to
structural failure.
Vibration analysis
of the engine propeller combination is highly advisable in
order to help improve the quality of ride, bearing life
while minimizing vibration, noise, airframe stress, pilot
fatigue, and power loss.
