Cessna Pilots Association Hosts
Monthly Open Houses
Beginning on January 20, 2007, the third
Saturday of each month is designated as a Cessna Pilots
Association Open House and Mini Fly In at the
association’s home airport in Santa Maria, California (SMX).
CPA has also arranged for historic aircraft to be on
display on those Saturdays.
A typical Saturday begins at 12 Noon with
grilled hot dogs, followed by a short educational
seminar on some aspect of Cessna-related flying. Planned
seminar topics include annual inspections, painting your
airplane and honing pilot skills. In addition, some
manufacturers have agreed to send personnel to provide
product-specific information. A schedule of seminar
topics is posted on the CPA Web site at
www.cessna.org.
“We want our members and others to be able
to visit our headquarters and staff,” says CPA Executive
Director John Frank. “Everyone wants some place to fly
on Saturdays.” Santa Maria Airport is located 15 minutes
from ocean beaches and within close range of 20
vineyards and eight championship golf courses.
John says that for those Californians with
35-year and older aircraft, CPA has authorization to
sign off the four hour (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) minimum
appearance as a display day so that the aircraft owner
can qualify for the property tax exemption.
