Calling All Oshkosh-Bound Cessna
Pilots
Cessna Pilots Association, in
partnership with Cessnas 2 Oshkosh, is planning a mass
arrival of Cessna aircraft at Wittman Field at this
year’s EAA AirVenture. At least 75 aircraft are expected
to take part in the event on Saturday, July 26, 2008.
Upon arrival, the Cessnas will be parked as a group at
Cessna Base Camp in the North 40 aircraft parking area.
“The mass arrival is an opportunity for our
members to take an active role in AirVenture, to
actually be part of the show,” says Cessna Pilots
Association Executive Director John Frank. “We’re
coordinating all details with EAA to make sure this
event is safe and fun.”
Only pilots who have completed a formation
flying training program will be allowed to participate
in the mass arrival. The training is organized by
Cessnas 2 Oshkosh under the direction of Rodney Swanson
with the last training clinic held on Friday, July 25,
2008, at Dodge County Airport in Juneau, Wisconsin. This
is the same airport from which the formation flight will
depart the following day.
Pilots participating in the mass arrival can
arrive at Dodge County Airport beginning on the
afternoon of Thursday, July 24 and continuing to the
morning of Friday, July 25. After a final briefing on
the morning of the mass arrival, the airplanes will
depart for the 35 nm flight to Wittman Field. The
airplanes will form 25 elements arranged in a “ ” shape.
Each element will consist of three aircraft of the same
model, one in the lead position and one in each of the
wing positions with an estimated arrival time in Oshkosh
of 2:30 p.m.
Any Cessna owner who has taken part in the
formation flying training program may participate in the
mass arrival. Membership in Cessna Pilots Association is
recommended, but not required. For more information,
